Your multicultural background may have helped you develop valuable professional abilities, such as adaptability, cultural intelligence, cross-cultural communication and relationship building. However, recognizing those skills and communicating their value can take time and careful reflection.

The 30-Day Multicultural Skills Action Plan divides the process into one manageable activity each day. It can help you move from wondering whether your experiences are professionally relevant to communicating their value with evidence and confidence.

Week 1: Identify

During the first week, you will explore your multicultural experiences, document your language abilities and identify five skills you may have developed.

Week 2: Verify

The second week will help you find evidence for each selected skill. You will examine specific situations, actions and results and ask someone you trust for feedback.

Week 3: Communicate

During Week 3, you will turn your evidence into resume statements, interview stories and a professional networking introduction. You will also update your LinkedIn profile.

Week 4: Connect and Protect

The final week will help you identify organizations that may value your skills, connect your abilities to real professional needs and establish boundaries around unpaid or unrecognized cultural labour.

Complete Your Professional Value Toolkit

During the final two days, you will organize your work into a reusable multicultural-skills toolkit and create a 90-day plan for continued development.

By the end of the 30 days, you should be better prepared to answer:

What can I understand, navigate, improve or accomplish because of my multicultural experience?

The goal is not simply to describe your background. It is to recognize the abilities developed through your experiences, support them with evidence and communicate how they can benefit an employer, customer, organization or community.
